Blackwell Forest Preserve has become one of my all-time favorite spots for senior photos. With its extremely dynamic landscape and plenty of space for photo sessions it’s become somewhere I visit almost weekly over the summer for photos. Senior Photos at Blackwell Forest Preserve

Blackwell Forest Preserve is centrally located off of Butterfield road right on the edge of Warrenville and Wheaton. The gorgeous location has become a favorite to many seniors for its winding roads, vast lakes, and gorgeous sunsets on The Hill of Doom (as it is called on Trip Advisor). For most senior sessions I meet my seniors at the boat launch off Silver lake where we are then able to spend our time exploring all that Blackwell Forest Preserve has to offer.

The Winding Roads

Though we can’t use the roads on busy days where there is a lot of traffic, on weekdays in the summer we are able to use the winding roads of Blackwell as a backdrop for our photos! I LOVE how the trees arch over the roads throughout Blackwell making almost a tunnel. During the fall when the leaves start to change the roads are GORGEOUS and covered in colorful leaves!

The Paths

Throughout Blackwell are a variety of winding paths that make up the forest preserve. The paths run through trees, around the lakes to various gorgeous views. Along with the paths, over the summer there are wildflowers that frame the edges of many of the paths. They are absolutely gorgeous and one of my favorite parts of taking photos at Blackwell Forest Preserve.

The Lakes

There are a couple of lakes that are a part of Blackwell forest preserve, the largest being Silver Lake. Silver Lake is just off of Butterfield Road and stretches far into Blackwell Forest Preserve. The lake is a super popular spot in the summer for renting Kayaks, watching the sunset, and snapping some photos.

The Steps

Tucked in throughout Blackwell are a variety of benches, steps, and other piers that create a jaw-dropping background for portraits. Also, senior portraits at Blackwell Forest Preserve are awesome in that they provide a ton of nature while also having some cool structures to incorporate into your photos as well.

The Hill

One of the most famous parts of Blackwell Forest Preserve, the hill is one of the best locations in Wheaton for sunset photos. With its uninterrupted skyline and gorgeous fields, the hill is the perfect spot to end your senior session. Wander up the hill to take in that gorgeous glow. Catch the end of sunrise and soak in all of the beauty that Wheaton has to offer.

Senior Photos at Blackwell Forest Preserve

As part of the Dupage County Forest Preserves you do need a permit in order to take photos at Blackwell Forest Preserve. I renew my permit every year in anticipation of all the seniors wanting to take their photos here. This location is great because of how much room there is, you hardly have to wait for other groups to move out of the photo background. If you’re on the fence of where to have YOUR senior session I highly recommend checking out Blackwell!
