Kelly and Katie’s Engagement

Kelly and I go WAY back, we actually met in High School when we were about 15, so when her girlfriend Katie reached out to me to ask me to document their proposal I was exploding with excitement!

Katie and I had been planning their session for a couple of months before it had finally happened. The two had talked about what they’re dreams in terms of a proposal a couple of times prior, so Katie knew she wanted their proposal to be in the city. Chicago is the city that the two of them fell in love in. It’s the city they started their family in, so she knew she wanted it to be intimate, and she really wanted it to reflect their relationship.

Katie suggested to Kelly a couple of days before our session that they go out and do Yoga at North Avenue Beach on Sunday morning. This ended up being the perfect excuse to get Kelly up at 5am. They made it out to the beach just for the tail end of sunrise. Katie just told Kelly to keep doing sun salutations while I moved into position to photograph the moment.

Katie popped the question and COMPLETELY took Kelly by surprise. Her jaw dropped to the ground and they were just so happy and lovey the rest of the morning. After their session, we took some photos of the two of them and popped some champagne to celebrate!

About North Avenue Beach

There are SO many beautiful spots throughout the city of Chicago, but North Avenue Beach has to take the cake. It is by far one of the best skyline views in Chicago.

North Avenue Beach is just on the edge of Old Town and The Near North Side of Chicago. For most of my North Avenue Beach Sessions, I park in the North Avenue Beach Parking lot immediately west of the South Lagoon off of Lakeshore Drive. There is a small parking fee that you pay as you enter and exit.

The Beach is a very popular spot because of its scenic skyline, its access to the lakefront path, and its GORGEOUS sunrises and sunsets. It’s seriously one of the best spots in Chicago to start and end your day.
